call of the wild

A footage that was telecast in a private news channel yesterday of a mother's plight to save her child was enough to stir the hardest of hearts . The mother in question was an elephant which strove for long three hours to lift her cub that had accidentally fallen into a dug well. Even the villagers who usually drove the elephants out of their hamlets for their ill reputation for being a scourge to the crops came forward with their helping hands and aching hearts. More than a hundred of these animals have been killed out of fear, callousness and greed . This inspite of knowing that they are endangered beings with their resources and livelihood at stake as a result of rapid urbanisation and deforestation. Satellite images prove  the conspicuous disappearance of verdant patches. Our greed and the thirst for more riches have already wreaked havoc on this wild .The call of the wild fails to reach our dumb ears and unknowingly we are heading towards our doom .
